Time to Give a Big THANK YOU

Pet Insurance Australia is reminding all pet owners to help give thanks to the animal shelters and rescue centres across Australia.
“We’ve seen a huge number of pets being rescued and fostered in the light of COVID-19,” Nadia Crighton from Pet Insurance Australia says. “This is just a wonderful example of how Australians genuinely care about the welfare of pets, but now is also the time to give thanks; to the countless people who care for our abandoned animals 24/7.”
The highly successful JetPets Companion Animal Rescue Awards is currently underway, for its third year, to help celebrate rescue groups and animal shelters who continue their efforts in saving companion animals.
“This is so particularly important during these challenging times, like COVID-19,” Crighton says. “We encourage all Australian rescue groups, animal shelters, pet adopters and foster carers to enter the Rescue Awards to get the recognition they deserve.”
Every year, approximately 190,000 pets remain unclaimed in Australia’s pounds and shelters, and thousands of volunteers support over 1,000 rescue groups and animal shelters across Australia.
The Rescue Awards 2020 has 10 Categories with one winner for each category.
- Award categories one through to eight are for industry.
- Category nine is the Advocate® People’s Rescue Story.
- Category 10 is the Drontal® Foster Carer Story.

Cathy Beer, pet rescue advocate and founder of Pets4Life wanted to ensure that those excelling in all areas of rescue are recognised and celebrated for the amazing work they do. Because of this, the Companion Animal Rescue Awards was born back in 2018, with raving success.
“The Rescue Awards is more important than ever to put the spotlight on the sector,” Cathy Beer, Rescue Awards founder and pet adoption advocate, says.
While it is wonderful that rescue organisations are experiencing incredibly high adoption and fostering rates these organisations are struggling from the huge impact of COVID-19 following in the wake of the devastating bushfires.
“According to the PetRescue website, more than 12,000 pets adopted in
just six weeks, which is just sensational news for all of those animals who now have a forever home,” Crighton says.
“With so many Australians experiencing the joy that adoption and fostering can bring, now is the time to give back, and give thanks to those who work tirelessly to care and love these animals during all times of the year.”
