In the world of canine competition, mutts are usually unfairly the underdogs. Yes, we never know which gene is going to prevail and possibly turn a cute little puppy into a disproportionately funny-looking pooch. However, after centuries of cross-breeding and mixing, recognisable combos have been created and they are winning our hearts with their uniqueness and beauty.

Many cross-bred dogs have even been given creative names, a combination of their parents’ breed names and this trend has made a whole new category of super cute dogs that you’ll fall in love with immediately! Here are 12 of our favourite mixed-breed dogs.

Labradoodle – Labrador and Poodle

This famous mutt definitely encompasses the best features of a Labrador and a Poodle. Labradoodles can come in all shapes and sizes but depend on the Poodle type and which breed characteristics end up being predominant.

Nevertheless, Labradoodles are usually recognisable for their goofiness, wits and friendly personality of a Labrador and the curly thick Poodle coat. Definitely a keeper!

Border Aussie – Border Collie and Australian Shepherd

The Border Collie Australian Shepherd Mix is another unique-looking,  smart and loyal hybrid. They resemble the Collie more, although their mixed genes can make a fantastic mixture of coat and eye colours, which makes them even more interesting. Border Aussies are also susceptible to heterochromia, so you never actually know what you’re going to get with this fantastic cross-breeding. Nevertheless, these dogs are definitely showstoppers.

Pomsky – Pomeranian and Husky

Have you ever wanted a flat-friendly Husky? This adorable cross-breed is just the thing! Pomskys usually get the piercing blue eyes, the pointy ears, and thick fur of a Husky, but everything just packed in Pomeranian size. Both breeds are quite self-sufficient and wild however, so a Pomsky is no less of a handful!

Schnoodle – Schnauzer and Poodle

Another Poodle mixture deserves a place on this list since it’s just an overload of cuteness. While it basically looks like a slightly smaller poodle, this embodiment of loveliness can inherit the friendly-looking face expression and a posture of a Schnauzer. Schnoodles are very approachable and playful, which only adds to their natural cuteness.

Morkie – Maltese and Yorkie

Morkies look more like the Yorkie breed but get the soft white fur and small fluffy face of a Maltese. But don’t be fooled by their charm as Morkies get really hyperactive and naughty when kept indoors for too long.

Chug – Chihuahua and Pug

Toy-like body, the worried look, droopy ears, and a cute underbite- who wouldn’t love this Chihuahua – Pug hybrid! Be careful about their temperament though, since these two breeds are quite different in character.

Boxador – Labrador Retriever and Boxer

What makes Boxadors so unbelievably cute is the clashing combo of their parents’ features. The sturdy, muscular Boxer body combined with a small goofy Labrador face make this weirdly beautiful family dog.

Bullpug – English Bulldog and Pug

Who knew these two dopey breeds could make such a cute little thing! When you look at Bullpug’s legs and body language you assume he’s ready to attack, but then you get to see his innocent, mild face expression and it’s clear this dog is just ready to cuddle all day long. Things can’t get cuter than that!

Horgi – Husky and Corgi

Husky genes tend to be predominant in these cross-breeds, but this little pooch definitely inherited his stumpiness from the Corgi. Just wait till you see this guy run towards you and you won’t be able to stop smiling. Again, be aware of the fact that Huskies are not extremely attached to humans, so you may have to look for a different breed to find a more loyal and devoted companion.

German Shar Pei – German Shepherd and Shar-pei

The narrow, squinty eyes and the innocent look of a Shar-pei combined with the pointy nose and erect ears of a German Shepherd just don’t go together. Or do they? With this mutt, you can really see the two breed traits mixed in a very interesting-looking dog. As far as personality goes, these dogs are truly gentle giants.

Golden Husky/Goberian – Golden Retriever and Siberian Husky

The lack of inspiration for names does not diminish the majestic quirkiness of this hybrid breed. The beautiful golden fur combined with ocean Husky eyes is just mesmerizing.  If you’re lucky to get a mutt with Golden Retriever’s temperament, this can be a great family dog that will definitely turn heads.

Cocker Pug – Cocker Spaniel and Pug

Once again, the Pug strikes. However, Cocker Pugs can turn out really cute with droopy long ears and round friendly eyes, resembling a Cocker Spaniel. A lovely combination, for sure.

Final thoughts

This is solid proof that cross-bred dogs can be just as adorable as the purebred ones. What’s more, mutts are just a combination of the best features two breeds can combine, giving the most specific and individual creatures worthy of admiration.
