No Dirty Dishes Day!

The 18th of May signals the fun and unofficial recognition of No Dirty Dishes Day. Meaning for one whole day, Australians are free of dirty dishes, scrubbing brushes and detergent.
“These fun holidays are always great to remember to take some time out for ourselves and have a break from the chores of everyday life,” Nadia Crighton from Pet Insurance Australia says.
“Plus it’s a great environmental push to try and eliminate dirty dishes and sponges while encouraging you to get out and about and enjoy a meal out, or a plate-free picnic in the park.”
So as the Nation gets ready to abolish the rubber gloves, scrubbing brushes and sponges for one-day Pet Insurance Australia is urging pet owners to give the extra time to their beloved animals.
“Pick up a lead and go for a walk or grab that cat toy and take some extra time interact with your precious pets” Crighton suggests. “What a great excuse to leave the dishes for a day and take the extra time to spend with your beloved pet.”
Those craving a break and wanting to enjoy more time doing the things they love developed this unofficial holiday. With the family pet high on the agenda it’s no surprise many Australian’s will embrace the extra time with their furry companion.
“It’s also a good time to remember to wash your pets bowl, so perhaps in the warm up to this great day, take the time to scrub your pets water and food bowls.”
Some ideas include:
- Take your dog for a walk
- Go for a picnic or enjoy a night out
- Play with your cat
- Wash all pet food bowls prior to the big day
- Take some time to groom your pet
- Wash the dog!
On the day:
- Cut down on the use of dishes
- Encourage children to use the same drinking glass all day
- Evaluate how many dishes you actually consume every day
- Abolish the use of plates and cutlery for a day
- Eat out
“Even though this day is for fun, it’s a great way to remember the seriousness of keeping your pets bowls clean and ensuring you take the time out to enjoy life,” Crighton says. “It is also a wonderful way to evaluate your current water and dish usage.”
