Kids from all around Australia (and even NZ) are buzzing at the recent announcement of the next Future Vet Kids Camp (FVKC).
“This is a fantastic opportunity for animal loving children to see first-hand what the veterinary world is all about,” Nadia Crighton from Pet Insurance Australia says.
“This inspirational camp allows children to experience educational excursions and talks by veterinarians, behaviourists and experts in the industry in a fun and relatable way.”
Alongside experts, children learn in an exciting and interactive environment the importance of the human and animal bond, while also gaining access to real-life veterinary experiences.
“There are wonderful opportunities for children to get up-close and personal with the veterinary field,” Crighton says. “For a child that is showing interest in animals, this is a great way to encompass and encourage their aspirations, while also being a great excuse to meet new friends.”
There is also a prospect for two lucky future vets to receive the 2018 PetSure Scholarship which includes the registration fees, valued at $595 each.
“This is a fantastic chance for two lucky children to experience such a phenomenal veterinary camp,” Crighton says.
Entries for the PetSure Scholarship close 30th November 2017. The school holiday camp caters to children from nine to 16 years of age and runs for two weeks in January at the Waverley College.
But what do the kids think?
Emily Pratten, 16, is returning for the third time because of “the friendships, great excursions to veterinary hospitals, interesting workshops and case studies, and hands-on activities like suturing, blood drawing and scrubbing up for surgery, and of course the animals!”
Tim Brandt, 14 – winner of the 2015 Future Vet Kids Camp Morning Tea with Bondi Vet stars’ competition – will attend camp again to learn more about veterinary science. He said “Becoming a veterinarian is something I aspire to. The camps have given me experiences I wouldn’t have been able to have and are uniquely aimed at people interested in working with animals.”
Alec Campbell, 14 – recipient of Future Vet Kids Camp’s 2016 PetSure Scholarship, is registered for the third time to gain more hands-on experience as he wants to be a vet someday. He feels “The Camp is very welcoming and I encourage more young people to attend and learn about how great animals are and how much fun they can have with them!”
