October 3, 2017

Pet Insurance Australia is urging all Australians to embrace this wonderful week, running from 1st – 7th of Oct, that focuses on the care and love of all animals.

“This is a week where we can all look at our everyday practices that have a profound effect on the wellbeing and happiness of the animals we share our lives with,” Nadia Crighton from Pet Insurance Australia says. “Taking the time to stop and appreciate all of the animals we reside this world with and consider how we can help ensure they live safe and happy lives.”

Some top tips to celebrating this week include;

  • Leave some bird food and water out for native birds
  • Build your cat an outdoor enclosure
  • Volunteer at a shelter organisation or organise some fundraising
  • Educate your children on native birds and animals
  • Visit a friendly farm or animal sanctuary
  • Take your dog out on a special excursion to the beach
  • Encourage your children to enter the colouring competition
  • Check out http://bekindtoanimalsweek.org.au/ and get involved
  • Sponsor an animal
  • Take your pet for a vet check-up
  • Have a special grooming and cuddle session with your pet
  • Remove rubbish like plastic bags from your local parks and wildlife rich areas

“It’s a great time of year to open the conversations with our children and friends about the importance of looking after our furry friends,” Crighton suggests. “This is a simple way to educate the next generation on why animal welfare and care is so important and what responsible pet ownership actually means.”

Pet Insurance Australia also encourages pet owners to really examine their own pet’s wellbeing and if there are any areas that need improvement.

“This week it’s also a good idea to perhaps address any medical or behavioural problems you are having with your pet,” she suggests. “An anxious dog or cat, or one that is showing symptoms of stress, such as destructive tendencies, is not happy. Getting to the root of the actual problem is achievable with the right advice.”

This week is all about looking at the entire wellbeing of our pets, and the animals we share our daily life with, while also educating the next generation about the importance of correct care and kindness to all walks of life.
